His father is Maurice Frank Wiles who lived in 1923 till 2005.  He was Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford. In 1952 till 1955, Maurice worked as Chaplain at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. His mother is Patricia Wiles.

Wiles got his bachelor degree in mathematics after he graduated from Merton College, Oxford in 1974. In 1980, he earned PhD. To get this title, he created a research at Clare College in Cambridge.
