Astor Piazzolla was born in Mar del Plata in Argentina. His father was Vicente “Nonino” Piazzolla and his mother was Asunta Manetti.   His parents were the Italian immigrants.  They only had one child, Astor.

Carlos Gardel is considered as one of the famous figures in tango history. Both met in 1934. Then Astor took part in his movie El día que me quieras. He became a young paper boy. It was only a cameo role for him. But it gave Astor the opportunity to join him on a Gardel’s tour as the bandoneon player. However, his father did not allow him to join the tour because he was still young to go along.  Astor was very disappointed. But soon he realized that it was a blessing not to be a part of the tour since Gardel and his team had plane crash accident in 1935.
